One thing to remember with shutter speed is that 1/60 of a second is generally the slowest you can shoot a hand-held camera. A typical DSLR shutter-speed range will start with a fast setting of around 1/4000 of a second to 1/8000, down to a very slow setting of 30 seconds or a B (Bulb) setting, where you can choose how long to leave the shutter open. Shutter speed refers to how long the shutter in your camera is open, and therefore, how long it is letting light into the camera.
